In line with ISEAL best practices, to ensure that standards remain relevant and reflect stakeholder understanding of good sustainability practices, the RSPO Principles and Criteria (P&C) 2013 are being reviewed again with a view to submit the final version for adoption to the RSPO General Assembly by November 2018.
Whilst the P&C review process was already under way the RSPO Smallholder Strategy was adopted in June 2017. The strategy mandates RSPO to increase the number of smallholders “through the simplification of the certification approach." Pursuant to this mandate, and in alignment with the RSPO Theory of Change, the Smallholder Interim Group, formed by the RSPO P&C Taskforce, has developed recommendations for a revised approach. These recommendations resulted in the development of an additional and separate standard, exclusively applicable to smallholders: the RSPO Smallholder Standard.
Draft 2 of the revised P&C is now open for a second round of public consultation, lasting again 60 days, from the 04 June 2018 until and including 02 August 2018. Click here.
