The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) cordially invites you to follow its first online debate on palm oil sustainability 21 May, 2013 at 3pm – 4.30pm.

The production and consumption of sustainable palm oil is the subject of a debate which is gaining more and more traction in Europe and globally – in political, NGO and business circles and increasingly also at consumer level. The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is hosting its first online debate, in live streaming, to shed light on the sustainability challenges related to palm oil.

SOME FREQUENT QUESTIONS ABOUT PALM OIL

  • What is sustainable palm oil? Can palm oil be sustainable?
  • What options and tools do we have to fight against deforestation?
  • Are the RSPO and its standards effective?
  • What role can consumers play?
  • Should we stop using palm oil?

PANELLISTS

Darrel Webber, RSPO’s Secretary General, Robert Hii, Palm Oil Consumers Action (Toronto), and Lorinda Jane and Michelle Nicol, both of Palm Oil Investigations Australia, will engage in an open discussion on the sustainability challenges of palm oil production and consumption, and the possible solutions. The debate will be moderated by Fred Pearce, writer and journalist, cooperating with the New Scientist, The Guardian and other British newspapers.
