    Organisation's Commitments Toward Sustainability

  • How will your organisation promote the RSPO internally and to other stakeholders?
Johnson & Johnson has a long legacy of making a positive impact on the world. In 2010 we developed our Healthy Future 2015 goals. This set of sustainability goals continues our commitment to make meaningful long-term impacts on the health of the planet and the health of people everywhere . As part of our Healthy Future 2015 Goals we have committed to source all palm oil and its derivatives from certified sustainable sources. Our commitment and membership of the RSPO, including other industry coalitions, is endorsed at the most senior levels in our business and has been shared with Johnson & Johnson employees and other stakeholders. We continue to seek ways to engage and build capacity of certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO) across the value chain, and actively encourage all our suppliers that produce materials using palm oil as a starting material to join the RSPO and to procure and use sustainable palm oil.
  • Where relevant, what processes is the organisation establishing to engage with interested parties, for example to resolve conflict or to use sustainably produced palm oil?
Johnson & Johnson has developed a Global Consumer Palm Oil Sourcing Strategy which takes into account our intent to address the environmental and social impacts of our ingredient sourcing activities. We have created a dedicated team to execute this strategy, which aims to ensure, by 2015, that only certified sustainable palm oil is used in the ingredients that make up our products. <br />As part of the Global Consumer Palm Oil Sourcing Strategy we work both internally with our companies and externally with our supply chain to meet this objective, supporting a number of specific projects to increase supply of CSPO through increasing small-holder yields, improve the usage of land and or support projects to increase global awareness around sustainable palm oil.
  • Where relevant, how will your organisation work towards implementing the RSPO Principles and Criteria or assessing supplier performance against these criteria?
Johnson & Johnson has set a target to source oleo-chemicals that contain only CSPO by 2015. In order to meet this commitment we have deployed procurement resources to focus on activities necessary for us to achieve our goal. We have committed to purchasing GreenPalm certificates covering 100% of our currently estimated annual volumes of oleo-chemicals and entered into a long term agreement with a supply partner to purchase palm oil certificates until such time we are able to assure our oleo-chemicals are derived from sustainable sources. We continue to engage with our suppliers to determine the provenance of their palm oil feedstock, and request them to source from RSPO approved sources.
  • Any other information that would support the application such as what your organisation hopes to gain from joining RSPO and how it would support RSPO?
Johnson & Johnson has been a member of the RSPO since 2006. We continue to engage and identify opportunities to build capacity with all our suppliers, communicate internally and externally the importance of sourcing CSPO and collaborate through and with various industry coalitions and forums to accelerate the introduction and use of sustainable palm oil.
