    Organisation's Commitments Toward Sustainability

  • How will your organisation promote the RSPO internally and to other stakeholders?
Stepan Company will develop a communications plan to inform employees, suppliers, customers
and other stakeholders of its membership in RSPO. Stepan will follow the criteria for proper messaging of RSPO membership status and use of logos.
  • Where relevant, what processes is the organisation establishing to engage with interested parties, for example to resolve conflict or to use sustainably produced palm oil?
    Stepan will
seek opportunities to advance the P&C of RSPO through engagement with the company's customers and suppliers who are likewise RSPO members. Stepan will work to understand and communicate the availability of sustainable palm products, in particular, palm kernel oil
derivatives for use in the production of the company's surfactants. Stepan will work to position itself as a preferred source for surfactants containing sustainable palm oil derivatives.
  • Where relevant, how will your organisation work towards implementing the RSPO Principles and Criteria or assessing supplier performance against these criteria?
Stepan views RSPO membership as an integral part of Stepan's Sustainability Program. Stepan will continue to engage with our supply partners and customers on the current realities and future associated with
sustainable palm procurement. In turn, we will assess our own procurement strategy and its alignment with market demand and responsiveness to our customer requirements.
  • Any other information that would support the application such as what your organisation hopes to gain from joining RSPO and how it would support RSPO?
    As the RSPO seeks
to establish sustainable supply chains, end-to-end participation, that is membership from companies representing all steps from tree to store shelf, is essential. Stepan Company plays a role in the supply chain consuming palm kernel oil derivatives for surfactants used in a wide
range of consumer cleaning products, personal care products and industrial applications. As a manufacturer of these materials in Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America, Stepan can be a valuable additional member to the RSPO community.
