Samworth Brothers is a family business producing quality food that we are proud to take home and share with our family and friends. We make a wide range of chilled foods in well-invested sites that give our staff the facilities and environment to produce food to the highest quality and food safety standards. We run each of our sites as autonomous businesses in order to respond as quickly as possible to our customers' needs, with each business linked by our common culture of 'People, Quality, Profit'. This allows the people closest to the customer to make important decisions speedily and accurately, so that all our people can directly influence the performance of their business.

Organisation's Commitments Toward Sustainability

  • How will your organisation promote the RSPO internally and to other stakeholders?
we will communicate RSPO membership and commitments to our customers ( most of the Major Retailers) and our suppliers. We will include RSPO involvement as part of our Ethical trade policy and promote and communicate our commitment to RSPO to the people within our organisation through staff handbook, induction and visible means of communication.
  • Where relevant, what processes is the organisation establishing to engage with interested parties, for example to resolve conflict or to use sustainably produced palm oil?
We have established workshops with Palm oil product suppliers (existing and potential) to understand the full palm oil sustainability picture. Relevant members of our senior management team have attended these workshops to help understand the welfare and enviromental importance of sustainable palm oil and understand how we can achieve supply.
  • Where relevant, how will your organisation work towards implementing the RSPO Principles and Criteria or assessing supplier performance against these criteria?
1.we have in place a Palm oil sustainability tracker which we share with our customers outlining our progress and timelines to achieve sustainable palm oil in all our products.
    2. we are working with suppliers (existing and potential) challenging availability of sustainable palm oil products.
    3. we are trialing sustainable palm oil products.
    4. we will have a COC audit when acceptaed as a member of the RSPO
  • Any other information that would support the application such as what your organisation hopes to gain from joining RSPO and how it would support RSPO?
We are a leading chilled food producer supplying most of the major retailers and this would help us introduce fully sustainable pastry products to large market sector which uses large volumes of Palm oil and palm derivatives.
