Oil Palm Growers
29 August 2011
Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL) is an oil palm developer, committed to long-term investment. As one of Liberia?s largest investors, our operation is bringing employment, infrastructure, education and healthcare to some of the poorest areas of the country.
In 2009, GVL was invited by the Liberian government to explore the potential for investment in the country. We consulted local communities in 2010 and development was widely welcomed. We are playing a key role in the government of Liberia?s Poverty Reduction Strategy and the economic revitalization of Liberia?s rural economy, by creating jobs and training employees in an extensive range of transferable skills, while contributing to infrastructure for the communities in which we work.
Such development will ensure opportunity for environmental conservation and prosperity for communities, while working collaboratively with key stakeholders and efficiently for investors, ensuring stability, sustainability and investment returns.
As a responsible investor and a member of the Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), we are committed to the sustainable development of palm oil in Liberia. This means protecting the environment and working harmoniously with local communities.
Our engagement with local communities is founded on the principle that working with us must be a matter of free, prior and informed choice. We are committed to respecting the sovereignty, culture and traditions of our hosts, preserving their sacred heritage and ensuring that palm oil production brings them real benefits.
On the environment, we will preserve all original forest and bio-diverse areas. We are working closely with Greenpeace and The Forest Trust on a Forest Protection Policy to define and identify areas of High Carbon Stock (HCS) forests, which we are also committed to conserve and protect.
