    Organisation's Commitments Toward Sustainability

  • How will your organisation promote the RSPO internally and to other stakeholders?
Coty is split into three divisions; Luxury, Consumer Beauty and Professional Beauty. A number of our products in these divisions (such as skin and hair care) contain palm oil derivatives. This means a number of internal stakeholders, including brand and marketing teams, will need to be aware of the RSPO and what it does and what it represents. This will be done through existing and ongoing team engagement, corporate responsibility governance as well as awareness training in how the company will manage the RSPO Mass Balance chain of custody.

Coty will also publish a sustainable palm oil sourcing policy, referencing our support of RSPO, which will appear on our corporate website www.coty.com
  • Where relevant, what processes is the organisation establishing to engage with interested parties, for example to resolve conflict or to use sustainably produced palm oil?
Coty is establishing an internal quality management system to ensure we can be audited to the RSPO Mass Balance chain of custody in order for us to make claims that we are purchasing certified palm oil derived ingredients. This management system will require resource input from a number of different functions within the business such as Procurement, R&D, Quality, Brands/Commercial and Finance.
  • Where relevant, how will your organisation work towards implementing the RSPO Principles and Criteria or assessing supplier performance against these criteria?
Coty will work very closely with its suppliers of palm oil derivatives to ensure the flow of materials and the chain of custody is being maintained. Suppliers will be regularly reviewed to ensure correct documentation is being provided for chain of custody audits of Coty's manufacturing sites. Adherence to chain of custody protocol will be monitored as part of the operational reviews that Procurement maintains with key palm oil derivative suppliers.

This will begin by a robust communications initiative to all relevant suppliers that this will become an expectation of Coty moving forward.
  • Any other information that would support the application such as what your organisation hopes to gain from joining RSPO and how it would support RSPO?
Although Coty does not purchase pure palm oil, or a lot of palm derivatives when compared to others in the beauty or consumer goods industry, we know that we have a responsibility to support the ongoing development of a sustainable palm oil supply chain. Supporting this development, through joining the RSPO, will enable us to improve our own supply chain traceability and governance in this business critical area, which in turn will move to satisfy the demands of our licensors and customers.
