Grissin Bon started its activity as a bakery company in the 1950s. The first name of the company was Grissineria Reggiana and it was closely modeled on small and traditional bakery shop. The founder, Nevino Bernardelli, was himself an experienced backer and applied his artisanal process to his new company. In 1960s the original production of bread and breadsticks was extended with ?pancarré? (Italian sliced bread) and sliced bread for toasts.

Currently the main distribution channels of the company are wholesalers, independent retailers, Ho.Re.Ca. In addition the company produces on behalf of third parties, mainly for the major large-scale Italian retailers.

The company is certified ISO 9001/2008, IQNET, Standard BRC and IFS, certificate of compliance Reg. 834/2007 (organic).

Organisation's Commitments Toward Sustainability

  • How will your organisation promote the RSPO internally and to other stakeholders?
    The company could include the RSPO in the quality / environment policy. In the future the company will put information on the RSPO certification on the company website
  • Where relevant, what processes is the organisation establishing to engage with interested parties, for example to resolve conflict or to use sustainably produced palm oil?
    The company intends to establish appropriate communications tools with stakeholders to increase their awareness on the issue of the consumption of sustainable palm oil and resolve potential conflicts
  • Where relevant, how will your organisation work towards implementing the RSPO Principles and Criteria or assessing supplier performance against these criteria?
    The company intends to carry out training activities on the RSPO requirements targeted at the staff directly involved in the scheme implementation, and efforts to sensitize the employees involved in a secondary manner
  • Any other information that would support the application such as what your organisation hopes to gain from joining RSPO and how it would support RSPO?
    Through the RSPO certification the company try to encourage consumers to use bakery products made with sustainable palm oil. The company believe that this choice can become a competitive advantage. Moreover, the certification is an evidence of the company understanding and acceptance of RSPO standard.
