Agrocaribe

Agrocaribe, in its wish to become a member of RSPO, has created the Environmental and Social Responsibility Department in order to promote, apply, and support the Priciples & Criteria of RSPO. Also in order to encourage the sustainable palm oil production, Agrocaribe has promoted the Oil Palm Growers Association through which the company wants to start the implementation of the P&C of RSPO. In addition to this, the company recently became a member of Centrarse, an association supported by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. which is in charge of promoting and developing the Social Responsibility Program in Guatemala.

On the other side, Agrocaribe has a Search and Development Department in charge of the implementation of new technologies for the crop management. This area has made an Integrated Pest Management program to reduce the use of pesticides and look for alternatives of pest control. An example of this is the creation of a snake hatchery for the rat control, a plague that really affects the crop. Also, we have started the use of the empty fruit bunch, as a culture medium in the nursery area. In the plating area, we have sown cover crops to reduce the soil erosion and weed control. Finally, this department is in charge of developing fertilization progams bases on foliar, soil and production analysis in order to apply only what's necessary for the plant.
