Family business since 1863 The strategy of the family business is focused on continuity and quality in the interest of customers, suppliers and employees D. Smilde The family business was founded by Arend Smilde in 1863 in Heerenveen. Now the fifth generation is working in the company. Still the family is very involved in the management of the company. We see that as an advantage for the company, our employees and also for the customers. The family Smilde has built the company into what it is now and aspires to growth and modernization, and also to act quickly and decisively to new changes and opportunities and by taking a clear long term vision in mind. Royal Smilde, built on the basis of corporate and social responsibility.
Royal Smilde group operates with 3 business:
1. Smilde Foods BV, with sites in Heerenveen, Netherlands for productions of margarine oils and fats under
brand names Bebo, Romi, Novarin, Topper and several PL's. Products are sold internalional in retail, food
service and industrial market.
Smilde Foods BV in Oosterwolde, Netherlands that is dedicated to salads, sauces, quiches and pies under the
brand names Fano, Abee, Pie factory. Products are sold mainly in the retail market and foodservice.
2. Smilde Bakery with 3 production sites in the Netherlands;
* Smilde Bakery in Edam producing a wide range of puff pastry products, filled puff pastries and meringues for
international market both retail food service and industrial use. Brand names; Pruve, Zocijs and van Welzen.
* Smilde Home Baking in Roden, producing a wide range of baking mixes under brand name Homemade.
* Van de Leur in Bolsward a bakery producing tartlettes, cakes and vlaaien.
3. Smilde Natura in Heerenveen, a trading company that delivers cooking oils and fats to foodservice operators and
collects UCO.

    How will your organisation promote the RSPO internally and to other stakeholders?<br />Smilde Foods BV. and Smilde Bakery BV promotes the membership of RSPO internally by means of a newsletter for the Business Unit, and by means of our Royal Smilde magazine for the whole company.

    Where relevant, what processes is the organisation establishing to engage with interested parties, for example to resolve conflict or to use sustainably produced palm oil? <br />There is not a specific process. If customers want to use the option book & claim and are end user than we buy the certificates, if the customer is use the product as semi finished product or raw material then we advise the customer to buy certificates.

    Where relevant, how will your organisation work towards implementing the RSPO Principles and Criteria or assessing supplier performance against these criteria?<br />In January 2012 Smilde Foods BV is audited for the level Mass Balance. The next step will be partial certification for Segregated Palmoil in combination with Smilde Bakery (B&C, MB and/or SG)

    Any other information that would support the application such as what your organisation hopes to gain from joining RSPO and how it would support RSPO?<br />Royal Smilde is a Family business since 1863. The family Smilde has built the company into what it is now and aspires to growth and modernization, and also to acting quickly and decisively to new changes and opportunities and by taking a clear long term vision in mind. Royal Smilde, built on the basis of social and corporate responsibility. Important for a Family business is continuity and therefore the RSPO membership fits very well as a sustainable future.
