The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is a not-for-profit, international membership organisation that is working to transform markets to make sustainable palm oil the norm. To do this, we have united stakeholders from all sectors of the palm oil supply chain and civil society to develop and implement global standards for sustainable palm oil production and procurement.

Since its inception in 2004, RSPO has enjoyed rapid growth and today has close to 5,000 members from 100 countries, including oil palm producers, processors, traders, consumer goods manufacturers, retailers, banks, and non-governmental organisations. Thanks to the commitments and actions of these members, nearly 20% of the global supply of palm oil has already been certified as sustainable.

At RSPO, we believe that a not-for-profit organisation is made successful by the passion, skills, and expertise of its people. They are the ones who drive our organisation to new heights and guide us through the next phase of our development.

The Executive, Marketing & Communications will be responsible for ensuring RSPO’s communications activities and marketing content is strategic, coherent and in line with RSPO’s brand identity and global messaging framework. The job will involve coordinating and engaging with stakeholders (internal and external) to ensure that all our content meets public expectations and needs.

The preferred location of this role is based in Europe or Asia-Pacific.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist in the drafting and preparation of communications materials, press releases, newsletters and other communications content in coordination and with support from the RSPO Secretariat team and agencies.
  2. Work with the Head of Marketing and Communications and Director of Outreach and Engagement to support the CEO and the Board of Governors of the RSPO to create content to assist in issues communications, based on risk management plans and trend spotting.
  3. Develop multimedia materials for RSPO’s diverse range of stakeholders and engagement platforms from webinars to events.
  4. Work with the copywriter(s) to support the CEO and the Board of Governors with messaging and speechwriting.
  5. Develop an in-depth understanding of the global media landscape and trends.
  6. Help deliver communications in multi-stakeholder engagement situations, with an understanding issues management and policy lobbying and/or development.
  7. Appreciation of the global sustainability agenda.
  8. Work with the RSPO Complaints Team, Investigation & Monitoring Unit and PR team to ensure external communication on complaints meet public expectations and needs.
  9. Apart from the duties stated above, perform any duty or duties reasonably assigned by the management. 

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT

  • A University Degree or Master in Multimedia Communication (or equivalent)
  • More than 2 to 4 years experience in a sustainability oriented or NGO organisation, communications agency. 

TECHNICAL AND PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Familiarity with multi stakeholder platforms
  • Outstanding communication skills and ability to adapt tone and approach for different stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of the sustainability sector and/or oil palm cultivation including key producing countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia.
  • Proficiency in English with good communication skills and the ability to establish cooperation and rapport with internal and external parties of different nationalities.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate across organisational boundaries and global teams, embrace change and make improvements to working practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for engaging with different stakeholder communities.
  • Conscientious and willing to take responsibility.
  • High integrity, nimble and a good team player.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Based in Europe or Asia-Pacific, with sufficient internet bandwidth to work remotely.
