The RSPO and Accreditation Services International (ASI) will be conducting an expert discussion on the Independent Appeals Mechanism (IAM) within the RSPO Complaints System on 8 July 2015 in Hotel Millennium, Jakarta. The discussion will focus on gathering inputs from stakeholders to obtain a comprehensive review on the IAM development.

RSPO grievance and complaints mechanism has been developed over the past seven years.  One of the key recommendations on the governance of complaint system is the significance of an IAM for RSPO Complaint System, which aims to support an independent appeals mechanism to replace the RSPO Board of Governors current role that would further reduce conflict of interest in the current RSPO Complaints System.

To conduct review on the present independent, third-party recourse and appeal mechanism, Accreditation Services International (ASI) was appointed as the consultant to develop practical and implementable IAM for the RSPO Complaint System.

The main objective of this expert discussion is to share stakeholders’ approach, practical experience and best practices with regards to dealing with appeals connected to grievance mechanisms, which include:

  1. To present the preliminary overview on the RSPO IAM.
  2. As a forum to gather practical experience from various sectors on the current IAM that will enable RSPO to design and implement an efficient appeals mechanism and to identify the best suit for the RSPO Complaints System, as a Non-Judicial, sectoral and multi-stakeholder grievance system.

We are pleased to inform you that there will be no participation fee for this event, and since the event will be held during the holy month of Ramadhan, we will provide iftar and sahoor for Moslem participants.  Participants are requested to confirm their attendance to [email protected] by 26 June 2015.
