Organisation's Commitments Toward Sustainability

  • How will your organisation promote the RSPO internally and to other stakeholders?
    Beiersdorf will promote RSPO membership by communication of policies, objectives and activities within the company. We actively maintain a dialog with our key stakeholders on the manifoldness of sustainability topics. In the same manner we will promote the RSPO with our suppliers and business partners to facilitate the progress towards sustainable palm oil.
  • Where relevant, what processes is the organisation establishing to engage with interested parties, for example to resolve conflict or to use sustainably produced palm oil?
    Our global procurement network is responsible for sourcing products and services. Uniform procedures and standards are implemented to ensure responsible sourcing throughout the Group. <br />Beiersdorf does not directly purchase palm oil (PO) or palm kernel oil (PKO) for the manufacture of cosmetics and produces no reprocessed PO or PKO based materials. But as it is customary in the cosmetics industry, we use essential auxiliary materials such as emulsifiers and surfactants (fatty alcohols, fatty acids and glycerides) in a series of products. <br />Beiersdorf is striving to satisfy significant parts of its PO/PKO derivatives demands from genuinely sustainable sources by the year 2015 (Segregated Supply Chain model). Therefore Beiersdorf has approached all its major suppliers of PO/PKO derivatives to work out joint solution towards PO/PKO supply from genuinely sustainable sources until 2015.
  • Where relevant, how will your organisation work towards implementing the RSPO Principles and Criteria or assessing supplier performance against these criteria?
    The strategic approach of our procurement management processes provides regular reviews and continuous assessments of suppliers including the aspects of sustainability.
  • Any other information that would support the application such as what your organisation hopes to gain from joining RSPO and how it would support RSPO?
    Until such time as our suppliers are able to acquire only sustainable PO/PKO kernel oil, our goal is therefore to purchase palm oil/palm kernel oil certificates (Book & Claim). <br />The membership of RSPO will give us greater credibility and support.
