 Information of Organisation
Metcash Trading Limited Australasia (Metcash) is a leading marketing and distribution company operating in the food and other fast moving consumer goods categories. It has three Business Pillars - IGA Distribution, Campbells Cash & Carry and Australian Liquor Marketers. Metcash is currently one of the best-performing stocks on the Australian market, a status that vindicates strategies put in place by management since Metro Cash and Carry South Africa acquired control of the business in 1998. High service levels remain at the core of Metcash’s success. If our customers are not successful, we are not successful. The company continues to focus on teamwork and staff training programs for the benefit of employees, customers and stakeholders. Metcash’s choice of motto - ""The Champion of the Independent Retailer"" - is well considered and a constant focal point on which management and staff can draw. The company’s commitment to its employees at every level, clear communication channels, regular briefings and an emphasis on training programs has reinforced the core values of the company and contributed to the rising status of the Metcash Group.
Please state how your organisation intends to comply with the RSPO Code of Conduct. Specifically in the following areas:
How will your organisation promote the RSPO internally and to other stakeholders? :
Upon acceptance of our membership application, we will promote our membership internally via our intranet, quarterly team brief dvd, staff newsletter, and direct email to all of our Merchandise & Marketing key staff.

We will include membership in our communications with stakeholders in ways such as Metcash.com, annual report, IGA website, and in response to direct enquiries from consumers. We may also prepare a press release about our commitment to responsible use of palm oil.
Where relevant, what processes is the organisation establishing to engage with interested parties, for example to resolve conflict or to use sustainably produced palm oil? :
Metcash have introduced minimum standards on sustainability / corporate social responsibility issues in our Corporate Brands Supplier Agreement. We are also developing a Sustainable Supply Chain Program, which will require our suppliers to complete a self-assessment questionnaire. High risk suppliers will be audited, those not complying with out minimum standards will be required to prepare an action plan to become compliant. Third party audits will also be undertaken randomly or on high risk suppliers.
Where relevant, how will your organisation work towards implementing the RSPO Principles and Criteria or assessing supplier performance against these criteria? :
Internally we plan tto educate our buyers and merchandise team on the implications of our membership to the RSPO.

In order to implement the P&C and assess our suppliers against our criteria we have included minimum standards in our Corporate Brands Supplier Agreement and our Sustainable Supply Chain Program.
Any other information that would support the application such as what your organisation hopes to gain from joining RSPO and how it would support RSPO? :
We have successfully worked with NGO’s on other sustainability issues, and in doing so have improved the sustainability of our supply chain and minimised risk to our business (such as reputational risks). We would support RSPO by promoting it through our supply chain and customer/consumer base, which is wide reaching in the community.
