| Walkers Shortbread is a family business that was founded in 1898 by Joseph Walker in Aberlour on Spey. The current Managing Directors are the founder’s two grandchildren. Until 1977 all products were baked in the village bakery in Aberlour. In 1978 a new factory was built near to the village to house the production of shortbread and oatcakes. Continuous growth in the early 1980’s saw the addition of a biscuit production facility and the building of a new warehouse. An additional shortbread production facility was completed in 1986. In 1995 a new factory was opened in Elgin and further extended in 2000 and 2003. 2007 has seen an additional factory unit opened on the Elgin. New NPD bakery is now in operation at the original village bakery site. | |
