CFNA-WWF-CGF-RSPO Summit in Tianjin, China

China Sustainable Palm Oil Supply Chain Forum to be Held in July

On July 18th the China Sustainable Palm Oil Supply Chain Forum will be held in Tianjin, China. The forum will be part of the China Chamber of Commerce of Foodstuffs and Native Produce’s (CFNA) 2012 International Oils and Oilseeds Industry Summit and will be jointly hosted by the CFNA, WWF China, the Consumer Goods Forum (CGF) and the RSPO.

The full day program will address a wide range of both upstream and downstream issues, and is designed to have an audience of approximately 100 representatives of companies (domestic and international), industry associations, social organizations and government agencies.  The Forum will also showcase the efforts of RSPO and its member companies to promote the production and consumption of sustainable palm oil.

Speakers will include CFNA President Mr. Bian Zhenhu, WWF’s Dr. Jason Clay and Prof. Jirong Sun, President of the RSPO Executive Board Jan Kees Vis, RSPO Secretary General Darrel Webber, and representatives of Chinese and international companies.

CFNA President Bian Zhenhu remarked, “CFNA recognizes CGF and RSPO as reliable global standards and supports the growth and use of sustainable oil palm products. We support the promotion of sustainable palm oil in China.”

Prof. Jirong Sun, Senior CSR-Consultant CIM Germany and WWF China Senior Advisor for SR and Sustainability, said, “We are pleased to make this event happen and look forward to this opportunity for productive discussions among leaders who each bring valuable experience and expertise to an issue of global significance – the sustainability of palm oil supply chain from production and down to consumption.”

CGF Chief Executive Jean Marc Saubade stated, “Consumer awareness of palm oil sustainability in China is at an early stage.  This meeting will provide a platform for international experts to gain in-depth knowledge about the China market, to share experiences with their Chinese counterparts and to explore opportunities to work together with them to further promote sustainable palm oil in China.”

RSPO President Jan Kees Vis commented, “The inclusion of palm oil as a major topic in this important annual Summit testifies to its growing importance in China.  As the world’s second largest importer of palm oil, China’s approach to sustainability has major ramifications to the global supply chain.”

RSPO Secretary General, Darrel Webber reaffirmed that, “We are at a critical turning point to conserve and protect the future ahead. Platforms such as these continue to motivate dialogue to establish clarity in the instrumental roles the various parties can play – from the private sector, non-governmental organizations, associations, government representatives and the consumers at large. China is clearly in a position to inspire this meaningful market transformation to certified sustainable palm oil.”
