Annual Communication of Progress FAQs

  • It is a requirement of the RSPO Members Code of Conduct that every Ordinary Member and Affiliate Member should submit an Annual Communications of Progress.
  • It is an annual/yearly requirement.
  • a.  Ordinary members and Affiliate members are expected to submit the ACOP as part of the Member Code of Conduct.
    b.  There are two separate templates for Ordinary Members and Affiliate members due the nature of the membership and the business/sectors these organizations are involved in.
    c.  It is not part of the Member Code of Conduct for Supply Chain Associates (SCAs) to submit the ACOP but this year, we have developed a condensed version of the ACOP online form which we encourage all SCAs to submit.
  • a.  It is a critical component of meeting the vision of RSPO which is to transform the market to make sustainable palm oil the norm. The ACOP and the members’ own  Time Bound Plans clearly indicate the specific plans and actions that organizations across all the stakeholder groups are taking to ensure RSPO certified sustainable palm oil is promoted, supported, produced and used across the supply chain.
    b.  The ACOP allows the RSPO not only to assess member progress but also to respond to issues and trends that are emerging.
    c.  The ACOP process also allows each and every stakeholder group to understand and acknowledge their distinctive roles within the RSPO. 
  • The reporting period for the ACOP has always followed RSPO’s financial year – July 2011 to June 2012.

  • RSPO will require adequate time to peruse each and every submission to ensure the questionnaire is completed within expectations. The RSPO will have to contact member companies to clarify any discrepancy or inadequacy of information to ensure that the members are given a fair opportunity to be published as having fully submitted their reports.  Thereafter, the reports will be analyzed and published on the website in time for the RT10 this year in October. Therefore, August 30th is a fair deadline for both members and the RSPO to ensure the outcomes are properly reviewed and published.
  • a.  The ACOP is the overall master report submitted as answers to a whole list of questions asked – which is different for every stakeholder group.
    b.  The TBP is one part (and a very critical part) of the ACOP, specifically requiring members to indicate their internal deadlines and milestones towards RSPO certified sustainable palm oil.
  • a.  The market is moving at a highly dynamic and rapid pace, with increasing expectations from every stakeholder group within the RSPO to play their respective roles. In line with this, the questionnaire for this year’s ACOP has been refined to include critical new information such as actions within emerging markets i.e. India and China; plans for using the trademark, amongst many others.
    b.  While the template for this year has been modified, we have put much effort to ensure it is a lot more convenient by making this an automated online survey process with pre populated data/information as per your previous submissions with simple optional answers, where possible.
    c.  We are also asking member organizations that operate along the supply chain to report on the full range of commitments and activities that they are undertaking.
  • Since the TBP is part of the ACOP, the end submission will be one completed questionnaire.
  • The information on the report will be published on the RSPO website and be used to review to the year on year commitment by member companies; to gauge the commitment of new member companies coming into the fold of RSPO as more of an active participation rather than passive; to analyze and publish the pledges and commitments made across sectors towards sustainable palm oil. It will also be used to gather feedback from members on the challenges and opportunities that they would like the RSPO to address.
  • a.  Due to the fact that new members will require time to be familiar with the expectations of the RSPO, new members are given a year before they are expected to adhere to this requirement of submitting the ACOP.
    b.  However, new members who wish to submit the ACOP, are more than welcome to do so.

  • Yes these grower companies will need to be re-submit their TBP in the required ACOP template. We urge though the information shared is consistent. 
  • Yes all 7 sectors are required to submit the ACOP.
  • The questions for each sector are outlined to reflect the distinctive contributions from each one of them towards promoting sustainable palm oil.
  • Any information that cannot be shared or responded to will have to be clearly indicated with: “it is a company policy not to share this information”.
