ANNOUNCEMENT 1 November 2004:

1st RSPO General Assembly held on 6 October 2004 in Jakarta, Indonesia

Immediately after the conclusion of RT2, the RSPO held its 1st General Assembly GA1. This meeting was attended by representatives of more than 40 RSPO Ordinary and Affiliate Members. During the meeting, 13 organizations representing various stakeholders along the palm oil supply chain were elected to serve on the RSPO Executive Board (EB) for the next two years.

In accordance with provisions of the RSPO By-laws, the new EB elected the RSPO office bearers in the EB meetings following GA1. Mr Jan Kees Vis (Unilever) who had played a key role during the formative phase of RSPO was elected President while Messrs Matthias Diemer (WWF Switzerland), MR Chandran (MPOA - Malaysian Palm Oil Association), Derom Bangun (GAPKI - Indonesian Palm Oil Producers' Association) and J Mesa-Dishington (FEDEPALMA - National Federation of Oil Palm Growers of Colombia) were elected Vice-Presidents. Ms Fausta Borsani (Migros) was elected Treasurer.
